Helmed by well-travelled entrepreneur, Mayuri Vara, the brand takes inspiration from its founder’s culturally diverse background as well as her love for vintage glamour. She cites Hollywood legends like Sophia Loren, Anna May Wong and Elizabeth Taylor as her muses, alongside modern heroines like Michelle Obama and Charlize Theron.
“My London upbringing, currently living in Hong Kong, together with my North West Indian heritage and British background gives me a global one world view point.” Mayuri told La Maison Couture. She describes her jewellery both as pieces of art and expressions of beauty, also drawing her design ideas from architecture and longstanding historical tradition.
Mayuri wants her creations to be worn with everything from jeans and casual flats, to the ultimate screen siren gown, and indeed we’d like to wear them with just about everything too. Past collections have drawn direct inspiration from motifs like Cleopatra’s Egypt, or Chinese architectural forms, while the latest Privé Collections are anything but understated. Expect pink sapphires, rubies and plenty of shimmering black and white diamonds encrusting daintily chic earring sets, necklaces, bracelets and rings, many of which take the form of sinuous serpents.
