Altitude Ski School Verbier

I was asked by a friend why I need ski lessons. I don’t think ski lessons are just for beginners. I’ve been skiing since I was a teenager, however the skiing journey is all about progression and at a pace that’s enjoyable. When I go to unfamiliar places I almost always take an instructor so he or she can guide me through the mountains, show the best off-piste spots and give tips where the best chair lifts are to avoid long queues and most crowded times.

I believe working on technique and practicing under the watch of an experienced teacher can make skiing less difficult, help avoid injury and just make the experience on the mountain more fun!

Sure, when you go in a large group with your friends there is a lot of temptation to outshine each other and compete with speed on the slopes . However, good skiing is not just about who goes the fastest. This year I’ve seen at least two of my friends get rather serious injuries on the slopes!  And it’s not because they are newbies. Therefore, for me the priority is still being able to come back home in one piece !

Altitude is a well-respected ski and snowboard school in Verbier, which opened back in 2001. With the aim of delivering high quality, professional ski and snowboard instruction to clients, the school prides itself in being able to offer private and group lessons in over 10 different languages.

On my first day of skiing I was accompanied by an Argentinian instructor, Federiko. Not only was he a fantastic skier, it also turned out he was an avid geography fan. He gave me a great history breakdown of the formation of the Swiss Alps and how they compare to other mountains around the world.

The other three days I had Jack, another fantastic instructor from the Altitude School. My friend, Maria, also joined in on some of my lessons. Jack was able to look after both of us, helping both of us achieve our goals and overcome some of our fears.

In the meantime, our kids were well looked after by the junior team of the Altitude Ski School. They were taken to the easier part of the slopes in Les Esserts where they learned to snowplough, take turns and by lunchtime were picked up by Petit Verbier, a local crèche which works in tandem with the ski school.

Would I do this trip next year?! Definitely!

Professional and flexible service provided both by the Ski School and the Petit Verbier made my holiday truly enjoyable!
