The 4 best Maldives resorts for family getaways

I’ve always considered the Maldives a romantic getaway location for Honeymooners and blissfully relaxed couples. And while a luxurious beach holiday for two sounds heavenly, you reach a time in your life when many of your peers have kids (and not just the one!). Myself included.

Every winter holiday you need to find ways to keep your toddlers occupied as school and nursery break up – the perfect place to accommodate the whole family. Sometimes I start planning and checking prices as early as June!

And if your family so happens to love the beach, travelling with toddlers becomes even more of a mission. I start thinking about all the mundane things that never once crossed my mind as a newlywed. Is the water warm enough to swim in? Are the flights direct… and not too long? Is the country safe and politically secure? Yep, you become a lot more cautious as soon as you become a mum.

So the Maldives, funnily enough, ticked all the boxes! You may be surprised at just how many resorts actually want to host couples with children. After all, catering for a growing family, rather than just two adults, would seem a rather smart business move!

Once you are set on the destination, the next step is to find that perfect hotel. The Maldives is made up of over 200 islands, each boasting unique and lavish resorts.

Here’s my pick of four of the Maldives best hotels for couples with young kids.

Per Aquum Niyama

Ok so it’s anything but cheap, but the experience on these twin private islands is one-of-a-kind. For the adults it boasts unmatched vistas, white sand, heavenly villas, a luxury spa and some of the best food around. For kids, it’s just as much fun.

They have fantastic Explorers’ Club for children up to 12 years, with a vast playground, a sunken trampoline and water jets, as well as a kitchen for cooking lessons and air-conditioned indoor spaces for arts and crafts. They also admit babies from 12 months onwards to the Kids Club, should you need a little alone time. And you will!

Constance Halaveli

This private island hideaway in the Maldives’ North Ari Atoll represents true luxury while also catering to families with toddlers. The kids are kept occupied with games, swimming, crafts, themed days, playhouses, cooking classes and everything in between. All you need to do it sit back and enjoy a cocktail at one of the resort’s many five-star bars and restaurants.

Lily Beach

Set in Huvahendhoo island in the Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, this all-inclusive luxury resort has top-notch service and doesn’t break the bank. It also has excellent half-board options. You can upgrade your water villa for a glass floor, canopy bed and private plunge pool, or go all out and book a suite.

I spent a week there last year and was very grateful for their hospitality. The Kids Club admits kids aged four and up, and when they weren’t too busy looked after my younger one free of charge.

Atmosphere

I discovered this little gem recently when looking for an option that wouldn’t blow the annual budget. Their all-inclusive packages include just about everything (including alcohol for those that require a tipple).

The island is big, and there are tons of activities to get stuck into, from running trails to reef diving. My little ones loved the water sports that were conveniently all included in the package.
