Three quality kidswear brands every mum needs to know

Rachel Riley

Multi-award winning designer Rachel Riley has become known for her unique baby and childrenswear collections as well as her capsule collection of “Mother Match” womenswear.

The London-based brand has been heavily influenced by its namesake’s fascination with the glamorous designs of the 50s and 60s.

Beginning life as a small mail-order business in 1998, the forward-thinking mum of three has turned her business into an international phenomenon, now stocking across the globe and in major department stores including Harrods and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Expect classic styling and the most luxurious fabrications in silhouettes that are already adored by celebrity fans like the Beckhams, Sarah Jessica Parker and Beyoncé. Furthermore, Rachel has this year launched her diffusion line – a 50-piece collection that retails at £9-£48, enabling an entirely new generation to enjoy her label’s designs at an accessible price point.

Le Petit Bateau

With over 100 years in the business, it’s hardly surprising that this enduring French label still makes some of the best kids’ clothes around. Using traditional manufacturing methods, they produce only the highest quality clothing and knitwear for newborns, children and adults, with almost 80% of everything they offer made in their ethical French factories.

It’s the attention to detail that really sets them apart from other brands. Their kidswear is carefully designed to allow maximum movement – it is no coincidence that in 1918 Petit Bateau cut the legs off long underwear, inventing the briefs we know today. What’s more, Petit Bateau is a brand that puts safety for your child first. For over ten years they’ve been carrying the Oeko-Tex® label which imposes rigorous safety controls on clothing, while their garments for newborns are specially made with flat seams to prevent chafing.

Wild & Gorgeous

Luxury childrenswear label Wild & Gorgeous is a London-based label that’s gone from strength to strength. Beginning as a baby boutique in Notting Hill, its founders Sophie Worthington and Lucy Enfield have since secured the brand’s presence in some of the world’s most exclusive boutiques and department stores including Selfridges, Harrods and Nordstrum.

Established in 2006 as ilovegorgeous their original aim was to make beautiful clothes for girls aged 0-15. In 2016, however, they decided to rebrand to Wild & Gorgeous in order to introduce boyswear to the mix. The overrulingaesthetic is vintage shapes with a modern  twist, fashion-forward but overtly not trendy. Both founders are mums of three.

Thanks to the adorable cuts and high-quality manufacturing, Wild & Gorgeous have also developed a high-profile fan base since their emergence. Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller and Claudia Schiffer have all decked-out their kids in pieces from the brand, while Prince George was widely photographed wearing the Harry jumper from the very first Wild & Gorgeous boy’s collection.
