Eco for all: 5 sustainable menswear brands

We already brought you our pick of the best in women’s eco fashion, but did you know there are just as many inspirational and innovative menswear brands out there pioneering guilt-free initiatives? Here are 5 more sustainable companies you need to know.

1. Noah

Founded by Brandon Babenzion, the creative director of unwaveringly hip skateboard brand Supreme, Noah is about as cool as it is inspiring. The NYC-based company, which has its flagship store in lower Manhattan, merges skate, surf and music culture with quality, integrity and originality. Babenzion is steadfast in his values, making it clear he aims to “take a stand against many of the appalling practices of the fashion industry.” The clothes are made in countries and factories that guarantee dignity for their workers, and the brand frequently speaks out in support of causes they are passionate about, such as #BlackLivesMatter.

2. Nau

This community driven label is functional, fashionable and forgivable. Hailing from the home of eco progress, Portland, Oregon, Nau is a truly ethical and sustainable brand with a focus on organic and recycled materials. Their threads are clean and flattering, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Nau also donates 2% of every sale to its chosen charitable organisations that include People For Bikes and Mercy Corps. Their menswear collections include shirts, tailored trousers and fashion-forward puffers.

3. Filippa K

Already a firm favourite in stylish Scandinavia, Filippa K have adopted a number of innovative initiatives that help make the world a better place. The brand’s journey towards complete sustainability is led by the Front Runners collection – a selection of recycled wool pieces that have been niftily designed with minimal eco-system impact in mind. They intend to make every collection sustainable by 2030. This is paired with another groundbreaking idea – a leasing initiative that allows customers to rent a particular garment for 4 days at 20% of retail costs, and with cleaning costs included. The clothes themselves epitomise slick, Scandi design, with both the menswear and womenswear collections focusing on clean and understated luxe.

4. Haeckels

We ladies are aware of what we put on our skin now so more than ever, so it should be no different for the men in our lives. Haeckels is a little skincare brand doing big things – and it’s local! Born out of the increasingly hip seaside town of Margate, the brand creates sensually inspiring products and perfumes from the area’s native flora. Pine trees, roses, chalk and blackberries all make the cut, and they do a whole range of seaweed-based goods, harvested from the English coastline. What’s more, they only test products on themselves so you can be sure there really are no nasties in their fully recyclable packaging!

5. Komodo

London-based Komodo has been promoting organic and sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, hemp, tencel and bamboo, since its advent in the early ‘90s. Equally important to the brand is the welfare of its factory workers, and Komodo promises to spend at least two months of every year in its global factories ensuring its codes of conduct and respect are upheld. Their menswear collection includes well-cut patterned shirts, knitwear, coats, organic socks and even extends to vegan shoes.
