A very fashionable Metaverse

Sci Fi writers and film directors have long wowed us with their imagination and a kind of artificial third dimension giving us glimpses into the future and virtual reality.

Today when we talk about virtual reality, it is the reality! The virtual reality sector has grown exponentially over the last decade and nowadays, the technology completely blends in with our daily lives – video games, medicine, education, you name it! Furthermore, a couple of months ago Mark Zuckerberg announced his plans to build the “metaverse” — a virtual reality construct intended to supplant the internet and social media platforms as we know them today.

The metaverse is said to become a new world where all our usual actions and things would become digital. You will immerse yourself in a virtual world that over time won’t be any different from the real one, even better they say – with augmented sensory experience!

You’ll be able to do anything and everything in metaverse – go to the cinema with friends, hold work meetings, visit exhibitions, do shopping and many more!

Of course, the fashion industry will be affected too! Brands are already thinking about how to create digital, 3D renders of designs and thinking about how the brand’s ethos can be translated into the digital realm as well as including augmented reality.

Digital fashion marketplace DressX for example has already created a way for people to buy and wear digital fashion. It just partnered with Farfetch to promote pre-order by digitally dressing influencers.

The Fabricant and Auroboros are at the top at the moment for digital fashion!

Earlier this month The Institute of Digital Fashion made headlines at the British Fashion Awards, as guests and celebrity A-listers got to wear their digital outfits live.

I also got to try the same digital outfit on my recent holiday in Maldives.

Developing the future of digital work and providing world-class immersive solutions for brands this is what IoDF does! And I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

In the near future, instead of going to your closet to choose something to throw on for your next video call, you might instead turn to your virtual wardrobe to pick out a 3D-rendered digital outfit to “wear.”
