2017’S BIGGEST HAIR TRENDS SHOWCASED AT NYFW

Alexander Wang Fall 2017

Care-free boy cuts
Championed by Cat McNeil, 2017 saw a sharp rise in boyish haircuts that effortlessly give off an air of too-cool to care. Alexander Wang models were transformed by legendary hairstylist Guido Palau, who took his inspiration from ‘90s surf culture. As well as the Aussie model’s much talked about “shelf cut,” attendees also bore witness to Irina Kravchenko’s mushroom bob, newbie Sohyun Jung’s choppy pixie cut, and androgynous Korean model, EZ’s peroxide yellow buzzcut.

Extravagant accessorising
At Marchesa girls had fresh flowers sewn into their hair, while others rocked luxurious velvet bows. Oversized bows also cropped up at Tory Burch, while Kate Spade and La Perla made the most of girly, floral hair clips. Meanwhile Altuzarra reigned supreme with Victorian headbands decorated with pearls.

Back to the straight and narrow
While the ‘80s perm has (thankfully) rested on the backburner for years, the slick, straight hair of the ‘90s seems to creep back into fashion every few seasons. Proenza Schouler, Victoria Beckham, Balmain and Prada’s NYFW shows saw models parade the catwalks with super straight locks, so there’s no time like the present to dust off those GHDs.

The slick side part
In another move away from voluminous hair, the sleek, flyaway-free side part was spotted at Dries Van Noten, Prada, Kenzo and Givenchy. Smoothed down to the scalp and dramatically off-centre, this masculine look is best worn with feminine tailoring and on-trend oversized earrings.
