Nestled into one of Paris’ liveliest locations, yet tucked away from the hubbub just enough to feel totally serene, Hotel des Grands Boulevards has everything you might need for a whimsically chic city break in the French capital. Flanked by the Sentier and its entrepreneurs, the Faubourg Montmartre’s theatres & the Opera House, and just spitting distance to the sleepless nights of Strasbourg Saint-Denis’ and the Faubourg Poissonnière’s hip restaurants, the hotel’s surrounds are just as inspiring as its interiors.
Featuring 50 uniquely quaint rooms, a much talked-about eatery, a pristine secret garden and a rooftop cocktail bar, the exquisitely polished space is the second of the French Capital’s Experimantal Group hotels. The building itself was erected shortly before the French Revolution, with the design paying subtle homage to the period without relying obvious clichés.
With canopy beds, glass cupboards and a spattering red marble known to be close to Louis XVI’s heart, the rooms invoke the splendour of the time, but a more rustic, provincial aesthetic is also at work. Linens, coated walls, worn wood furniture and bronze sconces ensure the décor is anything but excessive. The thoroughly modern amenities like mirrors that become TVS, ensure a contemporary feel throughout the space.
The new rooftop terrace designed by Dorothée Meilichzon features a lively new cocktail bar, The Shed – the perfect place to knock back a French 75 before dinner downstairs in the restaurant that revisits traditional French-Italian country cooking using only the best produce the country has to offer.
A palette of royal hues juxtaposed with dusty rose playfully seduces the senses, bridging the gap between romanticism & aristocracy with that much-needed nod to the mischievous.
