Top of the shops: a high street success story

More than fifty years since its emergence, Topshop continues to rule supreme on the British high street. Beginning life as the slightly less catchy “Peter Robinson’s Top Shop” in 1964, the forward-thinking brand entered the market as a stand-alone retailer in the Seventies, and has since gone from strength to strength.

Topshop’s ongoing success is in large part thanks to a host of much-celebrated partnerships: the Kate Moss collections, the release of Beyonce’s Ivy Park and inspired collaborations with J.W Anderson, Christopher Kane and Jonathan Saunders are just a few of the store’s legendary milestones.

Always quick to celebrate emerging talent, campaign alumni include Karlie Kloss, Cara Delivingne, Jourdan Dunn and both Bella and Gigi Hadid. Launched in 2005, Topshop’s Unique collection became the first high street brand to show at London Fashion Week, and it remains one of the hottest tickets in town to this day.

There are now 620 Topshop and Topman stores and franchises located in over 40 countries, while the iconic global flagship store at 214 Oxford Street sees almost half a million eager shoppers pass through its doors each week.
