This winter I wear puffers and bomber jackets

I am wearing Sandro Navy Blue Velvet Jacket and Skirt and Vanessa Bruno Velvet Platform Boots

You’d have to have been living under a rather large, fashionless rock had you failed to notice that everything nineties is back with fabulous vengeance. Chokers, tracksuits, slip dresses, bold hair colours, Adidas shell toes, Take That, All Saints… I could go on but chances are you know it all too well. It doesn’t feel like it’s been two decades since Jarvis Cocker made specs sexy and Kate Moss and Jonny Depp were the hottest couple, well ever. But alas, it has, and fashion being fashion has returned unreservedly to this glorious era.

Bomber jackets have simply littered the catwalks over the last few seasons, and while there are still plenty more to come – see Victoria Beckham’s upcoming collection for inspo – the oversized style has made way for another nineties outerwear staple, the puffer. As we transition into the colder months, this is one trend you’re going to want to embrace with fervour.

Forget the Michelin Man-esque unisex styles rocked by nineties R&B groups, the new puffers are runway-ready and infinitely cooler. Whether it’s emblazoned with a bold print or embroidery, cropped or floor-length, there’s a shape out there to suit everyone.

If you’re looking to make a statement, a bold geometric pattern works wonderfully in a slimmer style – see Burberry and Etro’s prints available at Farfetch.com. Or for a sportier minimal look that goes with just about anything, a classic zip-through black bomber like Prada’s is a solid investment.

Pair yours with a slinky slip to emulate the girls strutting the Balenciaga fall runway, or choose a luxurious fabric like velvet, a la Stella McCartney, and make it all about the coat. Either way, you’ll be keeping the hypothermia at bay.
