Military Marches Straight Back into Fashion…

Magazines and catwalks have been awash with khaki and camo hues for the last few seasons, so it’s perhaps not surprising that military motifs will be making a swift comeback this year. London fashion week witnessed everyone from Mulberry to Versace jumping on the trend for Spring 2017, with heavy hardware, buckles, button down canvas coats and lace-up boots taking centre stage.

The classic military coat never stays off the catwalk for more than a few years: its clean lines, button detailing and flattering form will make an appearance in most women’s wardrobes at least once in their lifetime. Givenchy currently has a selection of stylish cropped military jackets, or for something a touch more feminine, Dolce & Gabbana have created an elegantly embroidered floral option.

If you’re looking to go all-out camouflage, DSQUARED2, Off-White and Moncler offer a range of unique patterns and shapes that’ll set you apart from the squad.

Relaxed fitting trousers with utility pockets and hardware will also be gracing the catwalks throughout the year and a cropped version will pair perfectly with flats or heels. Again, DSQUARED2 is all over the army surplus trend, or for something a little more tailored try Alexander McQueen’s military wool blend trousers.

When it comes to army-inspired footwear, expect a continuation of the shift towards hardwearing, chunky lace-up boots, whether they’re fun and flat or sky high. Saint Laurent’s studded khaki Festival Boots will have you trudging through all the seasons in perfectly practical rocker-chick fashion, while Jimmy Choo’s lady-like Malta 100 boots pay heartfelt homage to the trend with their opulent gold buttons and elasticated detailing.
