Tabula Rasa Knitwear https://tabularasa-ny.com/about/
Winter is coming and the Met Office has warned it’ll be the coldest in 35 years. Dig out those fur booties, stock up on layering items and rejoice in the fact that knitwear is always in style. The recent trend towards oversized is showing no signs of waning, meaning this season’s sweaters are chunky, bold and at times boyish.
Maison Margiela never fails to impress when it comes to knits and this winter it’s no different. Both Margiela and McQueen are offering black chunky cable knit cardies that layer perfectly over a thinner knit when temperatures drop.
But we also love a statement piece – something you can pair with low-key basics to ensure your outfit is all about the knit. Simone Rocha has created a unique range that’s sure to incite sweater-envy. Her oversized string detail chunky knit jumper easily transitions from day to eveningwear, perfectly pairing with everything from mum jeans to floor-skimming skirts.
Patchwork is another of last year’s trends that lingers on. Japanese brand, Sacai, has garnered a cult following since its first runways show in 2011. It’s creator, Chitose Abe, spent eight years at Comme des Garçons before founding the label. Secai’s Nordic intarsia patchwork sweater epitomises Abe’s playful approach to knitwear and avant-garde silhouettes, and her men’s options are equally as eye-catching.
Tabula Rasa is another brand that exemplifies thinking outside the box. Now stocked through Moda Operandi, MatchesFashion.com and soon-to-be on Net a Porter, their knits are nothing short of sheer artistry. Inspired by historical tapestries and Moroccan rugs, every piece is laden with fabulous fringing and dramatic design lines, meaning it’s near impossible to pick only one.
And if you want to carry the chunky knit trend through to your accessories, then you’re going to want to invest in a snood. Kenzo are the go-to this season when it comes to the unisex neckwear. Brighten up any grey day by throwing on their multi-coloured chunky knit wool snood in an oh-so-cheery blend of purple, pink and blue.
Plummeting temperatures may dampen the spirits, but a super snuggly sweater is the first step towards survival. Pair with mulled wine and festive cheer for best results.
