Four jewellery brands you need to know

Mukhi Sisters

Born out of diverse cultures and their rich traditions, Mukhi Sisters is a line of jewellery created by three Indian-Lebanese sisters. In 2009 Maya, Meena and Zeenat Mukhi decided to take their shared passion for luxury jewellery to the next level – and with their creative family history it’s hardly surprising! The Mukhi sisters’ father, Chandru Mukhi, comes from a long line of Indian jewellers who’ve been in business since 1875,while their mother, Effat Kreidie, has been the driving force behind Effys Jewellery since 1982.

The pieces themselves are opulent in materials, yet gloriously whimsical in design. Expect a vibrant mix of punchy colour schemes, nostalgic references and natural motifs blended with a modern edge, all created using gold, diamonds and semi-precious stones.

Alessa Fine Jewellery

The brainchild of a creative young couple, Alessa Jewelery was founded in 2009 by Yuvraj Pahuja and Alessandra Robles. The duo are partners in business and love, and it’s evident in their carefully considered designs that are both dazzling and contemporary. Pahuja comes from a long lineage of jewellery makers and he’d previously managed the family business in Dubai before meeting Guatemala-born Robles at the American Gemological Institute, where they studied together.

Their unique collections go well beyond the basics, featuring anklets, men’s jewellery items and lip cuffs, as well as an extensive selection of rings, earrings and necklaces. The designs utilise hand-picked precious stones like diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds set into fine metals.

Aisha Baker

Launched just last year, Aisha Baker is a truly luxurious brand created by namesake Aisha Baker and Hoonik Chang. Jewellery collector, Baker combined forces with Central Saint Marten’s graduate, Chang in 2016 after they were  introduced by his sister.

The pair strives to create artworks that can be worn as a constant reminder to the owner of the magic of life. The brightly-hued pieces are entirely lavish, evoking feelings of childhood memories and long-forgotten fairytales. Aisha Baker’s debut collection, Mirror Mirror, incorporates bright blue and pink enamels with rubies, diamonds, amethysts, sapphires, emeralds and mother of pearl, all set into shimmering yellow gold.

Ruwaya

Ruwaya’s mastermind, Fatima Al Dhaheri, takes her inspiration from the exotic culture and rich traditions of Arabia. The spectacular sights, sounds, smells, wildlife and natural beauty of the country’s land make for an enchanting assortment of glittering pieces that capture the customer’s imagination. Her collections play off elegant colour schemes and organic forms, often showcasing pieces that hold an extravagant amount of stones set into gold or silver.

Also a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, Fatima began her career as a jewellery maker working for her father for luxury label, Amwaj. He encouraged her to start her own brand after seeing the success and excitement she achieved creating one-off designs for her friends and family. Ruwaya launched in 2015 out of the U.A.E.
