Taking inspiration from his Spanish roots and artistic background in sculpture, Emilio De La Morena kicked off the final day of London Fashion Week with a standout show that paid homage to cult film, Clueless. Hints of the nod to the Nineties classic were visible even before the models approached the catwalk, with a candy pink carpet framed by vibrant turquoise silk setting the scene.
Moreno – who studied sculpture before he became an alumni of London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins – elevated his show through carefully selected luxury fabrication. Cher Horowitz-inspired tweeds made the cut, alongside jewel-coloured silk and organza. Velvet and lace were mixed with sporty grey ribbed socks, and imposing frills and statement ruffles were prevalent. Moreno has also become known for his inclusion of Spanish materials, and this was evident in the form of electric pink and aquamarine brocades.
Tailored boleros and preppy mini-skirts stood alongside strikingly architectural dresses, each one an artwork in its own right. His collection took on a slightly more demure approach than previous shows, with ivory midis and maxis, as well as slick trouser suits with nipped in waists to create sensual silhouettes.
Separates also featured heavily, with crop-tops and boob tubes paired with eccentric pencils and A-line mini skirts. As always, De La Morena ingeniously juxtaposed strong, architectural shapes with fluid, organic femininity, creating a unique balance that’s entirely his own.
His fans already include A-listers like Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elizabeth Palermo, so we at Style’n’Snitch are certain we’re not the only ones itching to see what’s next for this visionary Spaniard.
