Australian top five

I am wearing KITX Suspended Backless Squares Dress and Proenza Schouler Boots

We’ve already covered the dazzling designs of Romance Was Born, the Aussie brand that had everyone clucking mad for their feathers and all-round razzle dazzle at their resort 2017 presentation. Australian fashion, however, often flies under the radar here, in large part due to its whopping great distance from any fashion capital. Despite this hindrance, those foxy, far-off fashionistas have prevailed, and are garnering more attention in European markets than ever before.

Here are five more Aussie brands you’re going to want to get your hands on now.

Camilla & Marc

This brother and sister duo have served Australian style setters for over a decade now. Their designs are super sleek but totally wearable, timeless, yet always in line with current trends. Their latest collection demonstrates the exquisite tailoring and refined design lines they’re renowned for and features a muted and minimal colour palette centred around black, white and nudes. Now stocked at Intermix, Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-a- Porter, the pair bring a taste of Down Under spirit to our somewhat chillier continent.

Shop it now: Available from Shopbop.com, we love this season’s strapless, backless leather dress with panels of luxury leather that create a flattering wrap silhouette.

KITX

Kit Willow has been making waves in the Aussie fashion world for a while now, but her latest project, KITX, has the added value of being entirely sustainable and ethical. It’s characterised by innovative tailoring that takes a modern approach to design, with flattering floaty shapes to suit all bodies. Earthy hues dominated her latest collection, with greens, greys and ivories offset with bold yellows and gold.

KITX is stocked at Shopbop.com and FarFetch.com. I got mine from ModaOperandi Trunkshow.

Shop now: KITX’s suspended backless square dress is both a mastery of design and a bit of a bargain, retailing at £365. Available in bright white and still-going- strong navy, the nifty number shows just the right amount of skin with its exposed back and adjustable front splits.

Dion Lee

Dion Lee is an expert in standout eveningwear. His showstoppers tend to feature daring cut-outs and bold design lines. With an emphasis on luxury fabrics, he’s become a dress-lover’s staple the world over since his debut in 2008. Lee has even charmed Kanye West, when he showcased the rapper’s shoes in two separate fashion week collections.

Shop now: available at MatchesFashion.com, this silk and satin twist front midi dress will ensure you’re the epicentre of your next cocktail party. Pair with an embellished clutch and strappy black heels to incite ultimate outfit envy.

Maticevski

Down Under’s official red carpet master, Toni Maticevski was raised in Melbourne and now resides in Sydney. His designs have drawn comparisons to dressmaking greats like Roland Mouret and Zac Posen. Their understated elegance means each item is an investment piece that will serve you for life.

Expect floor-skimming frocks, high-drama hems and a stash of separates that are hard not to swoon over.

Shop now: Available from Farfetch.com, this textured oversized jacket is the perfect throw-on over day and evening wear, and the earthy-brown shade means it’ll pair perfectly with this season’s khaki and desert hues.

Dinosaur design

Ok, so Dinosaur is neither new to the scene, nor do they sell clothing. But they are one brand you’re going to want to know about, and they even have their own UK site and London store. Having just celebrated thirty years in the business, the brains behind the bones received news that Net-a- Porter will be adding their jewellery to their site this December. Inspired by the bright colours and rich diversity of Australian nature, they specialise in quirky and one-off resin homewares and jewellery. Sinuous organic forms in bright, swirled colours epitomise their work, meaning every Dinosaur Design is instantly recognisable.

Shop now: get this resin bead coral fan choker online now. Sold in four beautiful shades, each necklace is handmade and totally unique.
