Goodbye smoky, hello smudgy

The smoky eye is one trend that fashion just can’t seem to let go of. Thankfully, this season it’s evolved. A continuation of the smoky look, the smudgy eye was showcased at both Alexander Wang and Altuzarra. What’s the difference? Well, first off it’s easily achieved, and even the shakiest hand should be able to master this one. Simply invest in a deep-coloured kohl or kajal liner, draw around top and bottom lashes and smudge with a sponge or brush to create the “nocturnal party girl” look championed by Alexander Wang.

Bold, surprise colour

Bold pops of colour are of course nothing new to the catwalks, but the places we found them during NYFW were in a lot of ways unexpected.  Max Mara swiped bold stripes across the temples, Mary Katrantzou saw pouts perked up with acid-bold hues, Adeam models rocked charcoal-black lips, and both Gucci and Proenza Schouler showcased a trend for yellow – the former rejoicing in painted brows, the latter going one step further with canary-tinged ears.

Lipstick as blusher
Blush brushes at the ready gals – and this one’s easier to pull of than you think. Nars lip colours were smudged into cheeks at JW Anderson, David Koma and Erdem shows, while Kenzo paid homage to ‘80s disco nostalgia with a crimson-coloured Mac shade boldly diffused across the temples.

Glitter. Lots of it
2017 is the year for sparkles. Theatrically glittery lips graced the catwalks of DKNY and Fendi, the latter of which saw Gigi Hadid sport accompanying winged eyeliner and bejewelled hair. If a pout caked in glitter is a little too impractical, you can easily showcase the trend on your eyes, nails or even by applying shimmering shapes as seen on models at Giamba.
